Amos 3:3
New International Version (NIV)
Do two walk together
unless they have agreed to do so?
For Meditation
- Isn’t it a beauty and delightful to watch two synchronized swimmers performing in perfect unity? Can you have enough of the artistic display and precision of every move they make? How do they do it?
- Don’t you think the swimmers get every routine down to almost perfection by agreeing, heart and mind, to work together to win the top prize in every competition? Do you see why they are able to sacrifice their individual interests and differences to be on one accord in their profession?
- Don’t you think it should be more so with our walk with Christ? Don’t you think there must be perfect agreement between us and the Holy Spirit in order to live a godly and overcoming life in Christ? (Gal. 5:16). Is that not what Amos meant in chapter 3:3 of his book? “Can two walk together without agreeing on the direction?” (NLT)
- How can you walk with Christ when you disagree with certain portions of His word? How can we live for Jesus and go on to disregard or rationalize scripture? How can we become like Him when we keep finding fault with His discipline? How can we refuse the ministry for the word in our lives and expect to live in harmony with Him (2 Tim. 3:16-17)
- Isn’t it better to put away our stubbornness and arguments and decide to walk with the Lord in perfect agreement like synchronized swimmers do with each other? Can you be His synchronize swimming partner? And can you do the same in your marriage and any other godly partnership and see what happens?
I pray you will settle your mind today on whether you want to walk with Jesus or not. I pray we do whatever is necessary to become His synchronized swimming partners in the sea of life, if we so decide.
May your burdens be lifted as you put your life in His hands; and may you experience a joy beyond yourself when you behold the prize that awaits you at when He comes! (2 Tim 4:7-8)
Shalom
