Celebrating God’s Faithfulness

Psalm 25:1-3

New International Version (NIV)

 In you, Lord my God,
I put my trust …

No one who hopes in you
will ever be put to shame

For Meditation

  1. Who do you turn to when you’re overwhelmed by trouble and affliction? In whom do you put your trust when you need an arm to lean on – when sorrow and tears have become your food and fear constantly haunts you?
  2. If David’s own father could forget him when Samuel came to anoint one of his sons as king over Israel (1 Sam. 16:11); who else could he trust again? When his own brothers couldn’t tolerate him because God had elevated him over them (13); how could David expect any support and encouragement from them (17:28-30)?
  3. When King Saul took issue with his fame and made David his prime target for destruction (18:6-9); where, and in whom, could he seek refuge (21:10-15)? With Saul and the entire army of Israel hunting him; was there any hope for survival? Do you see why David couldn’t get enough of God and always sang of His faithfulness and love (Ps. 26:3; 36:5; 40:10)?
  4. Maybe, like David, you’re caught in a tight situation and all you see around is darkness and gloom. But can you recall God’s faithfulness to those who put their trust in Him at such times? Can you say to Him: “In you, LORD my God, I put my trust” (Ps. 25:1)? Can you rise with David from the ashes of despondency to affirm God’s faithfulness in these words: “No one who hopes in you will ever be put to shame” (3a)? Isn’t that wonderful? Isn’t God good?
  5. How many times didn’t God come through for David during those fugitive years when hope was gone and crazy King Saul was closing in on him (1 Sam. 23:15-19, 26-29)? As God protected David until He made him king over Israel; wouldn’t He do the same for you, because you trust in Him? What makes you think that God will put you to shame before your enemies (2, 20)? Rather, will He not put to shame those who treacherously deal with you without cause (3b)?

I pray you call on God to show you His ways and to guide you in His truth, because your hope is in Him all day long, and you’ve thrown yourself on His mercy and love, which, “are from of old” (4-6).

So: “May integrity and uprightness protect” you, because your hope is in the Almighty; and may the Most High God deliver you from all your troubles for His glory (21-22), in Jesus’ matchless name! Amen.

Shalom
