Healing Without the Hassle

And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years. She had suffered a great deal under the care of many doctors and had spent all she had, yet instead of getting better she grew worse.

The car pulled up at the Emergency Unit of 29th Military Hospital, one of the most reputable hospitals in Ghana – the country that prides itself as the first African nation to gain independence from colonial rule. With no hospital staff to meet them, they rushed to the reception crying for critical attention. Their patient was bleeding profusely and needed immediate care. But they received the same cold reception almost everybody receives, “We have no bed available for you. You can try the Police Hospital.” With those cold words, the hospital receptionist dismissed them. But almost comically, the same song greeted them at the Police Hospital, “No bed!”

Lost in their desperation and confused state, someone suggested they take the patient back to the Military hospital. But, on arrival, there was still no bed.  However, since it was getting late, they detained the patient overnight on a borrowed stretcher from the ambulance.

The next day, some money changed hands, and so a bed opened up for the patient. “Why didn’t somebody tell me about this yesterday”, the son of the patient said.

After days of fruitless effort to stop the bleeding, and seven pints of transfused blood, they finally succeeded; but the cause remained a mystery. Consequently, the patient was transferred to a private hospital close by. Finally, a determination was made after four days of testing and surgery was proposed for the large intestine.

The pertinent issue here is this: How long should it take a patient to receive medical attention in a country like Ghana? Upon all the first class doctors the nation has trained, why should the medical system be so broken and corrupted? Why can’t the medical system provide the necessary care for patients?

But that’s the world system for you, it frustrates and abuses. There is no medical system anywhere that can provide complete medical care without some hassle.

That was the experience of the woman with the issue of blood who came to Jesus for healing (Mk. 5:25-34). For twelve years, “she had suffered a great deal under the care of many doctors and had spent all she had, yet instead of getting better she grew worse” (26). Like our patient in Ghana, can you sense her frustration before Jesus came to town?

“If I just touch his clothes, I will be healed”, she said (28). And that’s just what happened. With a touch of faith at the helm of the Master’s garment, her bleeding ceased – instantly! Now, that’s healing without a hassle; and it is only available at Calvary’s Hospital.

Our anonymous patient in Ghana will receive proper intervention for his condition very soon. However, there is a disease that has no cure anywhere in the entire universe. It is called sin, and everyone has it (Rm. 3:23). No doctor can cure it. No prophet, traditional healer, or angel can do it either. Only Jesus Christ can. He has provided on Calvary, abundant supply of divine blood to purge the sin of everyone who comes to Him (Is. 1:18; Heb. 19:14).

So, if you are tired, frustrated, and disappointed by the world medical system, why don’t you try Dr. Jesus at the Calvary Hospital? The service is friendly and without a hassle; and the cure, instant (Rm. 10: 9-10, 13). But the best part is: It is absolutely free (Eph. 2:8-9)!
