Deuteronomy 28:12
New International Version (NIV)
The Lord will open the heavens, the storehouse of his bounty, to send rain on your land in season and to bless all the work of your hands.
For Meditation
- As I read this scripture, I am reminded of the inscription on my cousin’s commercial vehicle that became his nickname: “Are You Ready?” Likewise, I want to pose the same question this morning: “Are you ready to receive some blessings from heaven today?”
- Can you imagine the storehouse of heaven, God’s bounty, being opened to you without restraint (Deut. 28:12)? Or are your barns too full for any more of God’s grace?
- Do you know what the early and latter rains mean to the farmer? Can you imagine the rains pouring, in the right amount and intensity, to water the farmer’s field to ready it for sowing?
- Or, is your office space your field? Are you a driver, teacher, nurse or, what have you? Can you envision divine blessings being unleashed all over the work of your hands (28c)? Have you experienced what it means for the Lord to bless the work of your hands?
- Do you know that this blessing could be yours, “if you obey the LORD your God” (1-2), in accordance to His Sovereign will? Is that too much to ask of you?
I pray you will remember the Rich Young Ruler who walked away from God’s grace and lost it all (Luke 18:22-23).
So: May you be like Abraham and give up whatever God tells you to put on the altar of grace (Gen. 22); may you receive this wonderful blessing from Jesus, our God and Provider!
Shalom
