Genesis 41:16
New International Version (NIV)
“I cannot do it,” Joseph replied to Pharaoh, “but God will give Pharaoh the answer he desires.”
For Meditation
Come with me in your sanctified imagination for a moment into Pharaoh’s court. Observe Pharaoh seated with his officials around him. The king is troubled by the dreams he had last night, and needs interpretation to them. This is a serious matter, but all of Pharaoh’s magicians and wise men have struck out. So, who is going to bring Pharaoh the interpretation he needs? Surprisingly, the chief cupbearer steps forward.
“My apologies, Ruler of Rulers, but today I am reminded of my shortcomings. You see, when you put me to jail, I met this young Hebrew who can interpret your dreams for you. He interpreted my dream and that of the chief baker, and things turned out just as he said they would. His name is Joseph.”
“Guards, get that Hebrew out of that dungeon and bring him to me right now”, Pharaoh said.
So, Joseph walks in, clean shaved and looking hurriedly groomed.
“They tell me you can interpret dreams, so I have two for you”, Pharaoh said.
“I cannot do it”, Joseph told Pharaoh…
A hush falls over the court, as Pharaoh turns to the cupbearer furious. But Joseph continues,
“…but God will give Pharaoh the answer he desires.”
What a great guy, this Joseph!
- Can you hear the ovation in heaven in response to Joseph’s humility (Gen. 42:16)?
- When God is given His place in the life of His child, can you imagine how heaven responds in worship?
- Can you picture the swiftness with which the angel, who was dispatched with the meaning of the dreams, came to Joseph (25-32)?
- Why will it not delight God to cause Pharaoh to put Joseph “in charge of the whole land of Egypt” (38-41)?
- In the same way, why will God not bring relief into your situation when you give Jesus His rightful place in your life? Why won’t He surprise you with something you never dreamt of?
I pray we will never take the glory of God when He gives us the opportunity to do something in His wisdom and power. Rather, we should give Him all the glory.
So: May we be confident in the unlimited possibilities of God in every difficult situation; and may we be elevated wherever we may be, for lifting Jesus up before the people around us.
When a child of God is decorated for their integrity, the ‘Potiphars’ bow their heads in shame.
Shalom
