Luke 1:46-47
New International Version (NIV)
My soul glorifies the Lord
and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior
For meditation
Only a life that has been touched by God’s grace can praise Him. It is only a heart that truly appreciates God’s favor that can rise in joyful singing to our Jehovah. That is what makes Mary’s song of praise to God, so beautiful (Luke 1:46-55).
Tune your heart to Mary’s song, and you can sense her joy overflowing. You can feel her sense of appreciation for God’s choice of her to carry His only Son in her womb. It is a true testimony from the heart of a woman who knew she didn’t deserve any of that; but for God’s special kindness towards her. She knew she could absolutely do nothing to warrant the favor. Talk about paying for it? Selling her and her household could only be like a tiny drop in the ocean; and that was Mary’s joy. That was the cause of her heart’s outpouring – the song of praise to her God.
- How about you? What can you give back to God for all His goodness and kindness to you?
- What can you give back to the Almighty God for choosing you in Christ “before the creation of the world” (Eph. 1:4) and saving you (2:8-9)?
- What can you give back to God, but your heart’s song – the outflow of a thankful heart to Him? As the Psalmist says, “What can I give back to Him for all His goodness to me”, but to ‘lift up the cup of salvation and praise the Lord’s name for saving me” (Ps. 116:12-13NLT)?
- Isn’t that what the Hebrews writer calls, “a sacrifice of praise – the fruit of [the] lips that openly profess His name” (Heb. 13:15)?
- Do you know that that is all God needs from you? So, why don’t you give to God the only thing He desires from you – your heart’s song of praise?
I pray you will open your heart and sing to God today in spite of what you may be going through, because He is worthy!
So: May you continue to flow in His glorious riches of grace that He has lavished on you in Christ (Eph. 1:6-8); and may this grace carry you through every situation until it lands you safely on the other side of eternity!
Amazing grace, how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me.
Shalom
