They Came to Worship

Matthew 2:1-12

New International Version (NIV)

After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen when it rose went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.

For Meditation

Magi from the east received a revelation of the birth of Jesus by the star they saw, and they travelled long distance to see Him, and to pay Him due homage. They came with their gifts fit for a King and determined in their hearts to honor Him, even though they did not have a full revelation of Him. All they knew was that a baby had been born who was to be, “King of the Jews” (Matt. 2:2). These sages from the east present to us today, the best way to celebrate Christmas and to honor Him by what we offer to Him as our gifts.

  1. How about us? What is the focus of our celebration today?
  2. Why have you come to the birthday party of Jesus?
  3. Do you know that you have come to the birthday of the most important person in the entire universe – God Incarnate? Is that your attitude?
  4. Have you come to worship King Jesus or to enjoy His party and go away without giving Him honor?
  5. Did you remember to bring Him a gift, thoughtfully selected and stately packaged? Did your heart come with your gift?

I pray you have come to worship Jesus today and that the gifts you bear are worthy of the King of kings and Lord of lords; for He is worthy!

So: May you rejoice today, as you celebrate the birth of Jesus; and may the best gift you give to Him be your sacrifice for the Gospel agenda, which is service to the church and her world-wide outreach.

The best way to celebrate Christmas is to worship God in everything you do through Jesus.

Shalom and Merry Christmas.
