Revelation 19:7
New International Version (NIV)
The wedding of the Lamb has come,
and his bride has made herself ready.
For Meditation
Something is happening in Accra, the capital city of Ghana, today. A new President is being inaugurated into office. It is a highly anticipated event, after the December 7, 2016 elections. The country is being ushered into a new administration that promises a lot after a period of economic difficulty and corruption galore. The day will be marked by ceremonies and parties around the nation, as the people rejoice in anticipation of better days. The celebration will be crowned with a Presidential Dinner, which is strictly by invitation. The event will showcase the “Big” people and the politically connected. Many people have juggled and lobbied for invitation cards to dine with the new President.
Pretty soon, there will be another event – the wedding supper of the Lamb (Rev. 19:1-8). It will be “the time for the church, prepared by loyalty and suffering [to] enter into her full experience of salvation and glory with her beloved spouse, Christ” (The Expositor’s Bible Commentary, pg. 571). Heaven rejoices, for “the Lord Almighty reigns … the wedding of the Lamb has come and His bride has made herself ready” (6-7). There is no need to juggle and lobby for this invitation. Unlike the Presidential Dinner in Accra, it is not for the “Big” people or the politically and socially connected. The invitation is for everybody in the world (Titus 2:11; Jn. 3:16); but only those who respond will be admitted to the feast (Jn. 1:12-13). However, it requires a response “today” (Heb. 3:7).
- Have you responded to this Gospel message?
- What are you waiting for?
- Why not take the challenge now and call on Jesus to save you, while the invitation still stands (Rm. 10:9-10, 13)?
- Have you considered the alternative – hell – if you miss this gracious invitation (Lk. 16:22-24)?
- Is that how you want to spend eternity?
I pray you allow nothing to stop you from responding to the Gospel invitation. It is worth everything you have.
So: May you secure your seat at the Lamb’s wedding supper today; and may you celebrate your salvation with great joy because, “The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it” (1 Thess. 5:24).
Rejoice that your name is written in heaven.
Shalom
