Four Days, so What?

John 11:39-40

New International Version (NIV)

“Take away the stone,” he said.

“But, Lord,” said Martha, the sister of the dead man, “by this time there is a bad odor, for he has been there four days.”

Then Jesus said, “Did I not tell you that if you believe, you will see the glory of God?”

For meditation

According to the theory of aerodynamics, the bumblebee should not be able to fly. The size of its wings in relation to the size of its body suggests that it is scientifically impossible for it to fly. However, the bumblebee hasn’t sat in a science class before, or read a physics book to know this theory; and so it spreads its wings and flies anyway. The bumblebee knows that it has to fly and that’s what it does. It makes nonsense of the aerodynamic theory by flying with the ability God has given to it.  What seems impossible to man is possible because God has ordained it.

That’s how faith must work for the child of God. It doesn’t matter the impediments and constraints in the believer’s life. All we have to do is have faith in Jesus and our ability to do all things through Him. We can thereafter spread our wings and soar above the storms to heights impossible for the human mind to comprehend. Nothing is impossible for us if God commands it through Jesus.

  1. So, what if Jesus did not immediately respond to the SOS call of the Lazarus sisters (Jn. 11:5-6)?
  2. What if Martha thought it was too late for her brother to come alive before the resurrection (24)?
  3. What if Lazarus’ body had been in the grave for four days when Jesus got there (39)?
  4. Could anything stand against the power of God? Could anything resist the command of Jesus?
  5. Why then were Mary and Martha worried? Why are you worried about your seeming impossible situation because your prayer has not been answered yet?

I pray you remember that “we live by faith, not by sight” (2 Cor. 5:7). When Jesus moves on your case, and He will for sure; nothing can stand against His command. Whatever is dead in your life will come back to life at His word.

So: May you allow nothing to cause you to lose faith in Jesus. Rather, may you, by faith, just spread out your short wings, like that of the bumblebee, defy all odds, and fly out of your troubles for God’s glory in Jesus’ matchless name. Amen!

Jesus is never late for your case. His timing is the best, and He manages it to reveal His glory in blessing you.

Shalom
