Genesis 2:23
New International Version (NIV)
The man said,
“This is now bone of my bones
and flesh of my flesh;
she shall be called ‘woman,’
for she was taken out of man.”
For meditation
His eyes opened wide; his jaw dropped. Self-awareness set in, and it was simply overwhelming. The sights and sounds of his environment came crushing on him. What beauty!
Trees and shrubs, fruits and vegetables, flowers in their beautiful adornment, filling the air with their sweet-smelling aroma, all captivated the man. And he had questions too.
“Who am I? Where have I come from, and where am I”.
Birds sang and insects chirped. His thoughts were interrupted.
Amazing!
Closing his eyes, he drifted away, as nature sang to the glory of its Creator.
His eyes open, and there, stirring at him were a variety of animals. Their voices, different in tune and intensity, added to the symphony around the Garden; and it blew the man away.
“What’s all this?”
“What’s going on?”
He lifted his eyes to the heavens, and, O, my! The beauty of God’s creation! Entire constellations looked back at him, and he couldn’t take it anymore. Dropping on his knees with upraised hands, he cried out loud.
“Will somebody tell me who I am and what is going on here?”
His voice echoed in the woods; but there was no response.
He continued to survey the Garden in all its beauty, and noticed something peculiar to the animals. They came in pairs of male and female, but there was none of his kind around. He suddenly felt lonely and concerned; and it showed in his face.
“It is not good for the man to be alone,” God said. “I will make a helper suitable for him.”
Adam’s heart now throbbed with intensity; his hormones shot through the roof; and his mind became woozy. God had performed the first surgical procedure on Adam, and crafted a suitable partner for Him from one of his ribs. Completely mesmerized and captivated by the beauty of his companion, Adam said:
“This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called ‘woman,’ for she was taken out of man” (Gen. 2:23).
“The man and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame” (25).
So, Adam and Eve lived intimately and enjoyed themselves in uncontested innocence.
Too bad we lost this innocence. It adorned the holy institution of marriage between a man and a woman with beauty, closeness, and intimacy.
However, God wants us to recover the purpose and joy of marriage, the way it was in Eden. It is only possible when we respect Christ Jesus as Lord, and yield to His Spirit in all circumstances. If you allow Him, He will lead you back to the Garden experience for the glory of God the Father!
Just give Him a try.
