2 Corinthians 5:20
New International Version (NIV)
We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God.
For meditation
An Embassy could be classified as a country within another country. The laws and processes within it are those of the sending nation. The Ambassador is the legal representative of the sending nation’s president. His or her responsibility, among many, is basically to promote the sending nation’s interest in the host nation. Their conduct must therefore reflect that of their nation and bring honor to their president. One of the key functions of the ambassador is to grant other nationals, access to his/her country through the consular section. The lines that form at any embassy for visas reveal the status of the country and how promoted and attractive it is to other nationals. The ambassador, therefore, must do well to uphold that image.
Christ Jesus came to represent God to this world (Heb. 1:3). He brought the physical presence of God to mankind. His purpose was to reconcile the world to God through His death and resurrection (Eph. 2:16; Col. 1:20). Citizens of this world have access to the kingdom of God through His reconciling grace in Christ. As we become citizens of the kingdom of God this way, Christ appoints us as His ambassadors (2 Cor. 5:20). He gives us the ministry of reconciliation through which He grants access back to God.
As Christ’s ambassadors, we represent God Almighty wherever we are. We have a responsibility to promote the kingdom of God by word and deed. We must tell the world about Christ and His finished work on Calvary – the remission of sin and His offer of eternal life through His resurrection. As Christ’s ambassadors, our lives must reflect Him. We have a responsibility to always bring honor to God through Him. We have many privileges as ambassadors of Christ, but we must also assume the responsibilities that come with them. They must always glorify our King.
- How are you representing Christ where you are?
- Do you aggressively promote His kingdom at every opportunity?
- Do you know that yours is a rescue mission to a dying world?
- Do your character and conduct reflect that of Christ?
- Is the Embassy of Christ you oversee as His ambassador, open twenty four hours every day?
I pray you see yourself as a distinguished representative of the heavenly kingdom whose King is Christ Jesus, the Eternal God and Savior, and live in a manner that reflects His glory and draws others to Him.
May you enjoy all the privileges as ambassador of Christ; and may the joy and peace you have in Him be evident to all around you, that they may be attracted to Him.
Do your work as ambassador of Christ with all diligence and integrity.
Shalom
