The Power of His Presence in You

Joshua 2:9

New International Version (NIV

“I know that the Lord has given you this land and that a great fear of you has fallen on us, so that all who live in this country are melting in fear because of you.

For meditation

Many Christians live in fear of demons and witches. Their constant dread of satanic power strips them of the power of God and makes them vulnerable. They are defeated before the enemy attacks. It’s all because they do not know what the enemy knows about them – the fire of God around them.

The account of Rahab and the two spies is illustrative and illuminating (Joshua 2). The two spies Joshua sent to survey Jericho slipped into the city to bring a report for strategic planning. Their prostitute host shielded them from their pursuers and deflected their search. But they had no report to send back yet. God works all things perfectly to our amazement all the time. Rahab presented that report to them:

“I know that the Lord has given you this land and that a great fear of you has fallen on us, so that all who live in this country are melting in fear because of you” (Joshua 2:9)

Can you imagine the two reporting to Joshua?

“Captain, the Lord has done it! The people are so afraid; they’re melting with fear because of us. They got the message from the miracle of the Red Sea and our defeat of Sihon and Og.  Their courage has left them, for they know who goes before us – the LORD our God, who is in heaven and sits above all the earth.”

This is the report King Saul did not receive when Goliath challenged Israel (1 Sam. 17:4-11); but a young man by the name, David, got it ingrained in his heart (26, 34-37, 45-47). It is the report the servant of Elisha didn’t get at Dothan; but the prophet had it firsthand (2 Kings 14-17). It is the report the disciples didn’t get in the furious storm with Jesus sleeping in the stern; but the Master was in charge all the time (Mk. 4:35-41). It is the same report many of us don’t get, because we forget God’s power in us that makes demons and witches tremble when we stand in our authority with integrity (Eph. 1:19-21; Lk. 10:18-19; 2 Cor. 3-5).

  1. So, why the constant fear of witches and demons (Lk. 12:4-7)?
  2. What’s the enemy’s power compared to God’s power in you (Eph. 1:19-21)?
  3. Where is the enemy’s victory (1 Cor. 15:55-57)?
  4. What is the use of God’s armor given to you (Eph. 6:10-18)?
  5. Why focus so much on the enemy that you’ve lost your foothold on the sea (Matt. 14:27-31)?

I pray the spirit of David for you today as you come against your Goliath.

May you receive the report from the enemy camp that hell is trembling because of Jesus’ work on your behalf at Calvary; and that in Christ, you are more than a conqueror (Rm. 8:37-39).

Shalom
