The Lord’s Visitation

1 Kings 17:12

New International Version (NIV)

“As surely as the Lord your God lives,” she replied, “I don’t have any bread—only a handful of flour in a jar and a little oil in a jug. I am gathering a few sticks to take home and make a meal for myself and my son, that we may eat it—and die.”

For Meditation

As I thoughtfully read through 1 Kings 17 today, these questions flooded my mind and helped me gain greater insight into the providential hand of God in our lives that I thought would be helpful for our meditation, after you’ve read through the chapter.

  1. Do you know that God knows your needs and sometimes meets them in unusual ways?
  2. Do you know that you are part of God’s unfolding plan for this world and that the need in your life could be exactly what God needs to finish an important part of His plan?
  3. Are you ready for a miracle today – a miracle that may require the testing of your faith?
  4. Like the widow of Zarephath, you may have only what to “eat and die”, but are you willing to sacrifice it for the unlimited provision of the Lord?
  5. Would you recognize God’s visitation in your moment of desperation? Can you hear His voice through a ‘stranger’ when He comes with the answer to the situation you’ve long been crying to Him about?

You may have come to your wits end and are thinking, “This is it. I am done”. Well, don’t close the book yet. The best is yet to come; for you have not seen anything yet! Just trust this miracle working God whose name is Yahweh.
Shalom
