A Lasting Legacy

2 Timothy 1:5

New International Version (NIV)

I am reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also.

For Meditation

It’s important to think about the legacy we may leave for posterity till Jesus comes in his glory. We live in expectation of Him coming to carry us into his eternal comfort and rest someday soon. This blessed hope strengthens our feeble arms and weak knees in this troubled world.

  1. But do we take some time to consider how our lives would influence our future generation? Have you considered the greatest legacy you can bequeath to your family when you leave this earth?
  2. Will posterity see your faith at work in the lives of your children? Will they know the quality of your faith by the lives of your children when you’ve gone to rest with your Savior?
  3. How are you ensuring this? Are you teaching your children the ways of the Lord (Prov. 22:6)? Do you have good devotional times with them (Deut. 6:7)? Are you living Christ before them (Phil. 4:9)?
  4. Do you see how easy it was for Paul to see the faith of Timothy’s grandmother, Lois, and his mother Eunice in him (2 Tim. 1:5)? Do you think it was Timothy’s church attendance or seminars and conferences?
  5. Don’t you think it was Timothy’s sincere and devoted faith that reminded Paul of Lois and Eunice? Can you imagine how Timothy’s faith influenced his decisions, comportment, actions and reactions in life?

I pray you realize how powerful the influence of  that kind of faith  is on your children and make it your way of life.

So, may the Lord help you to live in sincere and faithful devotion which leaves no room for convenience and loose talk. May you walk in faith that influences those around you, especially your children, who will be able to influence their children after them till Christ comes. Amen!

Shalom
