Second and Third Opportunities

Micah 7:8

New International Version (NIV)

Do not gloat over me, my enemy!
Though I have fallen, I will rise.
Though I sit in darkness,
the Lord will be my light.

For meditation

  1. Have you considered a world without second chances? Can you imagine your life’s situation and where you would be now?
  2. Where would you be without the second lease on life God has given you in Christ Jesus?
  3. Aren’t you glad that Jesus came to redeem us from the dominion of sin and brought us into His kingdom (Col. 1:13-14)?
  4. In your daily life, don’t you rejoice for the second opportunity Christ offers you when you confess your sins (1 John 1:9)?
  5. How seriously do you take these second or third chances, and what do you do with the new opportunities they offer you?
  6. Do you see how blessed you are to have access to this bounteous flow of grace from God the Father through Jesus Christ?
  7. Why then are you lying on the ground and weeping as if the end has come for you?
  8. You failed or messed up badly, so what? Don’t you have a Savior who forgives? Is He not a God of second chances? Would He not graciously lift you up and give you another opportunity?
  9. Didn’t Moses mess up? How about David and Peter? Didn’t God give them a second chance?
  10. So, why do you listen to your detractors who rejoice over your predicament? Why do you worry when they say you will never regain your position, or recover your fortunes?
  11. Have you forgotten what the prophet Micah said to the enemies of Judah when he anticipated their reaction to the Babylonian destruction of Jerusalem, “Do not gloat over me, my enemy! Though I have fallen, I will rise. Though I sit in darkness, the Lord will be my light” (8)?
  12. With the ever-flowing mercy and grace accessible to you at Calvary, why can’t you say the same to your enemies?
  13. When you call on Jesus in your defeated situation, will He not lift you up and restore your fortunes? Will He not blow a fresh breath of life on your marriage, business, job opportunity, or whatever your situation may be?

I pray you pick yourself up and take your stand in the victory of Christ Jesus and shame your enemies. It’s your confidence and assurance in Him. And when He gives you the second chance, make the best of it for God’s glory.

Shalom
