Something to Think About

Psalm 20:7

New International Version (NIV)

Some trust in chariots and some in horses,
but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.

For meditation

Sometimes, we need to assess ourselves to see where our confidence and trust in life are anchored because it is important to know the integrity of what we have invested our trust in and where it is taking us. So:

  1. Isn’t it sad that some people find security in this life only in their wealth? Does it ring a bell?
  2. Have your bank accounts and investment portfolio become your source of security? Can you check to see who rules over your heart and mind (Matt. 6:24)?
  3. Has your investment manager or financial newspaper become your Holy Spirit and the Bible? Can you check to see where you get directions for your life and the things you invest your interest and time in?
  4. Do you gauge your image by your position and wealth? Do you define your self-worth by them? Can you check how you boast in them and trumpet your accomplishments at any given opportunity?
  5. Why have you turned these things into objects of worship (Isa. 46:6)?
  6. Can you trust them in your day of trouble (v.7)?
  7. Are you certain they will respond to your cries for help (1 Kings 18:26-29)?
  8. Where then are people like Hitler, Saddam Hussein, Muammar Qaddafi, Idi Amin, Howard Hughes, Jr. and how did they die?
  9. Did their positions and wealth answer them in their times of need?
  10. Do you realize the limitation of everything except Jesus Christ, the Creator and Sustainer of all things (Col. 1:16-17)?
  11. As God asks in Isaiah 46:5: “To whom can you compare me or count me as equal”?
  12. So, why put your trust in anything or person apart from Jesus?

I pray you enjoy the gift God has blessed you with in these material things, but never allow them to swell your head or to usurp the exalted place of Christ in your heart. Rather, put your trust in Jesus and Him alone.

As the Psalmist says: “Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.” Amen!

Shalom
