Proverbs 27:6
New International Version (NIV)
Wounds from a friend can be trusted,
but an enemy multiplies kisses.
For Meditation
I love the proverb, “Wounds from a friend can be trusted, but an enemy multiplies kisses” (Prov. 27:6). So, let me ask you:
- Are you a real friend?
- Can you rebuke me when I am wrong?
- Can you tell me before I make a fool of myself?
- Would you lay it straight on me, or you will rather lie to me because it may hurt?
- Why would you do that?
- Do you think you will be protecting me that way?
- You think it’s the best way to show your love for me? Really?
- How about if it leads me to my downfall?
- Are you then going to come around to comfort me?
- Couldn’t you have helped me to avoid the pain I may be suffering?
I pray you will be truthful to your friend in everything if you really call yourself a friend. It doesn’t matter how the truth hurts or make the person angry. For, it is better to rebuke your friend now than to wait till they stumble. You don’t know how severe and painful the fall will be.
So: May you be a friend who loves always, and may your friendship bring mutual joy to you for looking after each other.
Shalom
