When They All Desert You…

Matthew 26:56

New International Version (NIV)

But this has all taken place that the writings of the prophets might be fulfilled.” Then all the disciples deserted him and fled.

For meditation

  1. Have you ever felt this lonely before – the time when all your trusted friends and family deserted you?
  2. But, didn’t they make you think they loved you?
  3. Didn’t they make you feel they would be there for you through thick and thin?
  4. So, why did they desert you when you most needed them?
  5. Were they not with you everywhere when things were going well and the crowd couldn’t have enough of you?
  6. Didn’t they sit and dine with you all the time?
  7. When you sensed that they may desert you at a critical hour, didn’t they individually deny it to your face?
  8. Didn’t the head of your family or your closest friend assure you that even if everyone deserted you, he wouldn’t?
  9. When you pressed your case with him on that point, didn’t he impressively declare his preparedness to go down with you, even if everybody deserted you?
  10. Didn’t that encourage everybody to say the same?
  11. What happened when you asked them to stay the night in prayer with you in the anguish of your soul?
  12. Did they not sleep on you?
  13. With willing spirits, but heavy eyes, didn’t they continue sleeping while you poured your heart out to God through the night?
  14. Is there any wonder they all deserted you when your enemies came for you?
  15. Where was the boastful head of the clan who swore he would die with you?
  16. When he was called to testify on your behalf, did he not swear he didn’t know you from anywhere?
  17. And where was the one who described himself as the one you loved most?
  18. Isn’t it puzzling?
  19. Isn’t it disappointing?

Welcome to the world of Jesus!

I pray you will realize what He went through for your sake. Realize what you do to Him every time you deny Him when He expects you to faithfully stand for His name and honor. He deserves better, don’t you think?

Shalom
