The Reward of Competence

 Proverbs 22:29

New Living Translation (NLT)

Do you see any truly competent workers?
They will serve kings
rather than working for ordinary people.

For Meditation

  1. Do you appreciate the value of competent work?
  2. Are you aware that how people appreciate your value is a function of the skills you bring to your work (Proverbs 22:29)?
  3. So, do you seek competence in what you do?
  4. Have you taken time to acquire the necessary training to improve your skills or to sharpen your gift(s)?
  5. Would you say you are committed to your establishment and the values it stands to promote?
  6. Are you loyal and trustworthy?
  7. In your work, do you pay attention to the expectations of your boss and of the consumer?
  8. How much care do you put into the details and finishing of your work before unveiling it?
  9. Do you go the extra mile to get the work done well?
  10. Are you motivated by the quality of your finished product that would draw the appreciation of your target audience?
  11. Maybe you must consider the sixth proposition of Proverbs 22:29, which reminds us that a skillful worker will always be sought by those who know the value of things and appreciate quality?

I pray you will realize that our Lord Jesus, the King of kings and Lord of lords, appreciates those who are diligent in their commitment to Him and His service. As a matter of fact, 2 Chronicles 16:9 assures us that God actively seeks such people to reward them.

So, decide to pay attention to details and the little touches that enhance the quality of your work and service; for, they increase their value. Always remember that everything you do is for the glory of God (1 Cor. 10:31).  And, may He crown you with success in whatever He has called you to do in the home, church, work, community or nation.
