When a gentle south wind began to blow, they saw their opportunity; so they weighed anchor and sailed along the shore of Crete.
Acts 27:13 (NIV)
For Meditation
Jesus is our great Deliverer, even on high seas.
But take note, you who scorn God’s word. What you perceive as your opportunity may be pure and outright deception.
The “gentle south wind” the sailors on the ship that was carrying prisoner Paul to Rome perceived as their opportunity to sail, was not really gentle after all. For, it sent the ship into a wreck that could have been fatal, but for God’s deliverance because of Paul (Acts 27:13). So could your “gentle south wind” be.
Therefore, examine every ‘opportunity’ carefully, and allow God to guide and diect your way in it. You could avoid unnecessary heartaches by that.
And, one more thing.
Never think you are smart because you escaped a disaster by a close call. God may have saved you for a reason. It could be your call to discipleship.
Shalom
