Will You Get off His Seat?

The twenty-four elders fall down before him who sits on the throne and worship him who lives forever and ever.

Revelation 4:10

Do you want to know proper worship and who deserves it? Then visit the Royal Palace in heaven with me through the vision of John in Revelation4:1-11. Your knowledge concerning God’s sovereignty would appear from obscurity. You will learn how worthy God is of all worship because He is the Creator, Giver, and Sustainer of all life. You will see the beauty and magnificence ofHis throne and the humility of His worshippers. And, since you are one of His redeemed through Christ, you will jump out of His seat you have occupied for so long.

In the throne room of God, you will see the worshipping elders adorned in pure white robes, seated on thrones, and wearing crowns of gold (4:4). However, as soon as the four living creatures gave glory, honor, and thanks to Him, who sits on the throne (9), the elders got off their seats and prostrated in worship. That is how uniquely worthy God is of all worship.

The kingly position of the twenty-four elders could not prevent them from prostrating before the only Sovereign King and Ruler. Yet, how difficult it is for us to prostrate before Him in worship. The heavenly beings prostrate without hesitation. They have a position and authority. They are decorated with brilliance and crowned with gold. Yet, it did not matter. They cast them before the Sovereign King in worship. It is all because He deserves everything they have.

O, that our knees would openly bend before God! We are nothing before the King of Glory. How helpful it would be to realize how pitiful we are when we readily bow to earthly kings and leaders. If only we will relinquish our positions and lose ourselves before the Eternal King in worship! It is the only time we could touch His heart. For, so long as we continue in our prideful posture before him, we will be usurping God’s throne. But how dangerous it is to play God!

King David did not. He let himself go before God with joy when he brought Ark of his presence to Jerusalem (2 Sam. 6:16). His wife despised his humiliation before the maidens of Jerusalem. But David knew the object of his worship. His heart was after God. His worship belonged to Him alone.

“It was before the Lord, who … appointed me ruler over [His people that Idanced]. I will celebrate before the Lord. I will become even more undignified than this, and I will be humiliated in my own eyes” (2 Sam.6:21-22).

That’s the key to worship. Until a person acknowledges Jesus as the real Owner of their life and all they have, they cannot worship God acceptably. Like the living creatures, to worship God is to acknowledge Him as Creator, Giver, and sustainer of all things (Rev. 4:11). Knowing this would enable you to worship Him appropriately.

Acknowledging this truth will get you off His seat. Denying it changes nothing. Rather, it makes you a rebel worshipper.

So, will you get off the seat of Christ in your heart?
