If God Has Said It

What is this dream you had? Will your mother and I and you’re your brothers actually come and bow down to the ground before you?

Genesis 37:10

His eyes were bright, filled with childlike expectation. His voice revealed the joy and wonder of what he had seen in his dream. He needed to share with somebody, but his brothers had snubbed him the first time he had a similar dream (Gen. 37:5-8). So, this time, he decided to talk to his father, who had previous encounters with God in dreams. But Joseph was in for a surprise.

“What is this dream you had? Will your mother and I and your brothers actually come and bow down to the ground before you” (Gen. 37:10)?

Several years later, in the capital city of the greatest empire in the world at that time, a young man was hastily prepared and hurried from prison and brought before the Pharaoh (41:14). The King of Egypt had two dreams that none of his magicians and wise men could interpret.

“Today I am reminded of my shortcomings. Pharaoh was once angry with his servants, and he imprisoned me and the chief baker in the prison of the captain of the guard. Each of us had a dream the same night … Now a young Hebrew was there with us … We told our dreams, and he interpreted them for us … And things turned out exactly as he had interpreted them to us” (9-13).

So, Joseph stood before the Pharaoh, wondering what business he had before the king.

“I had a dream … no one can interpret it … I heard …you can interpret it” (15).

“I cannot do it,” Joseph replied to Pharaoh, “but God will give Pharaoh the answer he desires” (16).

Joseph interpreted Pharaoh’s dreams by God’s grace. He added an elaborate plan of action to counter the severest drought the world would soon experience. Pharaoh put Joseph in charge of Egypt to manage the plan he had suggested (39-43). The drought hit, and the entire world descended on Egypt for food.

Joseph’s brothers came to Egypt to buy food. Through a series of events, Joseph was reunited with his family and he became their bread winner and host for the rest of their lives. Joseph’s two dreams, thirteen years earlier, came to pass, because God had so determined it.

As you look to the coming New Year, recognize this. If God has decreed something for your life in 2019; it will surely come to pass. The world can fight against it, people can laugh and sneer. The devil can do his worst, but because God has purposed that thing for your life; it will surely prosper in His set time and for His glory. As He says in Isaiah 46:11, “Indeed I have spoken it; I will also bring it to pass. I have purposed it; I will also do it”. And to Jeremiah, He said, “I am watching to see that my word is fulfilled” (Jer. 1:12).

A prosperous New Year to you in Christ Jesus, amen!
