The God Who Sees and Protects

And Elisha prayed, “Open his eyes, Lord, so that he may see.” Then the Lord opened the servant’s eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.

2 Kings 6:17

One of the scriptures that warms my heart is Psalm 139. To have the Almighty God as my Father alone blows my mind. But to consider His total knowledge of me and my engagements as the Psalmist celebrates is another thriller (Ps. 139:1-18). The  other side of this wonder is God’s knowledge of my enemies. He sees everything, even the very plans my enemies craft against me in their bedrooms. And not only does He know, God has the power and ability to take care of their threats. Sometimes we forget this truth, so we tremble when people rise against us.

The story of the King of Aram and the prophet Elisha illustrates this so well.  Exasperated by the leakage of information in his war cabinet, the Aramean king pushes his officers for answers. Elisha is pointed out as the mole, though he lives miles away in Israel.

“None of us, my lord the king,” said one of his officers, “but Elisha, the prophet who is in Israel, tells the king of Israel the very words you speak in your bedroom.” (2 Kings 6:12).

This is so good! God reveals the plans of the enemy of Israel to His servant, Elisha, who in turn discloses them to the king. Amazing! But wait. That’s not all. God puts a plan in motion to redeem the situation He has revealed. Isn’t that wonderful?

The king of Aram sends a strong force to capture Elisha (13-14). Elisha’s servant sees the enemy troops surrounding the city and panics. But Elisha assures him of God’s protection around them (16). He prays for God to open the servant’s eyes so he can see the hills filled with horses and chariots of fire from heaven. God has dispatched a myriad of angels to protect Elisha. Remarkable!

That is my encouragement and yours in Christ. God knows you and your situation, my friend (Gen. 16:13). He sees what your enemy has plotted against you in the dark – even the unmentioned things they have conceived in their hearts. He will direct your steps away from the fowler’s snares and from the deadly attacks they plan to spring on you (Ps. 91:3-4). O, how I pray He would open your eyes now to behold the myriad of angels that surround you now! They outnumber the demons the enemy has assigned against you (2 Kings 6:16).

So, as He told Israel, do not fear. Do not be dismayed; for the Lord your God is with you. He will strengthen, protect, and uphold you with His righteous right hand. Your enemies will be confounded at what He would do, and they will be ashamed and disgraced (Isa. 41:10-13). Just be sensitive to the Spirit of God and walk in obedience with Christ Jesus, your Lord. For in Him, you are fully covered.

  1. Thank you Jesus! This is so good. I am encouraged. The devil will be put to shame in his battles against God’s children.
