David is at the end of his flight … Saul has closed in on him;

“What can I do?”

Such a time comes for everybody – they call it “wits end.”

“God, where are you?” … Sounds familiar?

“Don’t be afraid … “My father will not lay a hand on you … You will be king over Israel … Even my father knows this” (1 Sam. 23:17).

“I know that voice.”

Feet shuffle …  Arm-in-arm, they stood … tears rolling … noise dripping … What time is it?

That’s it … the surprise … the familiar voice … David yearned to hear … the warmth of a friend … Jonathan!

“Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones” (Prov. 16:24).

Apt … Gracious … Pleasing … Kind … Comforting …Encouraging … Soothing!

Do you have such a friend?

“What a Friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and griefs to bear … What a privilege to carry, everything to God in prayer.”

May you find a friend like Jonathan!

But more than that.
