Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfill his promises to her!”
Luke 1:45
For Meditation
She had every reason to doubt. Young and innocent, with no precedence to guide her faith; yet, she believed. Myriad of questions loomed; yet, she believed. A million eyes to peer through her in deriding wonder; a multitude of accusing tongues to slash her asunder; yet, Mary believed the angel.
She did not get a lecture from the angel as the old priest, Zacheriah received: “I am Gabriel. I stand in the presence of God, and I have been sent to speak to you and to tell you this good news.” Yet, Mary believed.
“The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God.” Simple, but profound. Not words for a maiden; yet, the young virgin believed. Why?
Knowledge of the Most High … Faith in the God of her fathers – Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob … the history of Israel and God’s dealings with them … prophecy.
A prepared, but innocent young woman. God’s chosen for His tabernacle on His maiden physical dwelling on earth. Mary knew none of this; yet she believed.
“I am the Lord’s servant,” … May your word to me be fulfilled.” Simple! Faith on display!
Up the hill country, she hurried off, brimming with wonder, joy, and curiosity.
“Is it true, Cousin Elizabeth?”
“Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the child you will bear! … Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfill his promises to her!”
Is that not the kind of faith God looks for to bless? Is that not the attitude He desires?
Looking for His blessing?
