Eight Golden Thoughts

You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.

Isaiah 26:3

For Meditation

There is a marauding danger to the serenity of life that I have observed lately. It is the threat that confinement poses to our peace.

Confinement makes us anxious and depressed. It has a way of oppressing and leading many into depressive moods. But, thank God He gives us peace when we pray and petition Him with thankful hearts (Phil. 4:6-7). God settles our racing and confused minds in Christ Jesus. Gradually, we begin to have a refreshing sense of His closeness, power, and love. Our faith gets strengthened, and we can find uncertain tomorrow with courage.

However, there is an insidious danger to watch out for. It is an enemy within us. It is what we desire to set our minds on. We must beware of its sneak attack.

For example, what kind of movies do you watch? How much time do you devote to the news? How long do you stay in the gossip lane? How much of the old hurts and pain do you recall?

Such things can stir up unwholesome and disturbing thoughts to rob you of the peace of God. So, what can you do to maintain your tranquil disposition?

You can begin by making time with the Lord in His word. Paul exhorts us to set our minds on whatever is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, and praiseworthy (Phil. 4:8). As we meditate on these virtues that define the presence of God, they keep us in His protection. In this, you can trust His promise to us through Isaiah: “[He] will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you” (Isaiah 26:3).

So, practice His presence, and may you continue in the peace of God that transcends understanding in Christ Jesus. Amen!
