The Virtue of Discretion

Set a guard over my mouth, Lord; keep watch over the door of my lips.

Psalm 141:3

For Meditation

Solomon says that “Even fools are thought wise if they keep silent, and discerning if they hold their tongues” (Prov. 17:28). How true!

As you step out today, ask the Lord to take control of what you say and set sentries over the door of your lips (Ps. 141:3). He will generously give you the wisdom you need without upbraiding you (James 1:5).

I pray the Lord to hear you when you genuinely call upon Him to help your verbal incontinence. May He set your prayers before Him like incense, and may He let the lifting of your hands rise to Him like the evening sacrifice (Psalm 141:2).

Shalom
