They gave Moses this account: “We went into the land to which you sent us, and it does flow with milk and honey! Here is its fruit. But the people who live there are powerful, and the cities are fortified and very large. We even saw descendants of Anak there.
Numbers 13:27-28
The choices and decisions we make during our seasons and times depend on how much we have learned to trust God in every circumstance. Our level of personal and intimate knowledge of God wields the ability to always direct our decisions and choices during our seasons and times. Therefore, if we are going to learn to trust God through our choices, we must be intimate with Him through a strong desire to know Him.
Every day, we are confronted with choices. These choices always challenge us to trust in God or to abandon Him for our satisfaction. They pitch giants against His promises (Numbers 13:27-28), our fleshly desires against the Spirit (Gal. 5:17), and the world against the kingdom of God (1 Jn. 2:15; Matt. 6:33). How we respond depends on the level of our trust in God. That is what separated the ten spies from Joshua and Caleb.
God has given you a promise, but there are giants out there intimidating you. Can you trust God to kill those giants through you and take hold of your inheritance?
God says, “Be holy, because I am holy” (1 Pt. 1:16). But the flesh stands in the way and demands satisfaction. Can you trust the Lord to strengthen you against that sinful desire to glorify a holy God?
God says, set your heart on things above where Christ Jesus is seated at the right hand of God, and set your mind on things above, not on earthly things (Col. 3:1-2). But the world says to you, “Hello! Look at my glitter. I have what you need for today. Why wait for the glitter of heaven?” Can you trust Jesus and stand against the pull and glitter of money, sex, and power?
Our encouragement today is to completely trust Jesus when we stand to make decisions and choices at all levels. When life challenges the promises and blessings of God with its giants and fortified cities, with its glitter and shine, and with its fame and power, how will you respond?
