Of opportunities and God’s Promises

Afterward, David was conscience-stricken for having cut off a corner of his robe. He said to his men, “The Lord forbid that I should do such a thing to my master, the Lord’s anointed, or lay my hand on him; for he is the anointed of the Lord.”

1 Samuel 24:5-6

Your Encouragement

“This is the day the Lord spoke of when he said to you, ‘I will give your enemy into your hands for you to deal with as you wish’” (1 Sam. 24:4).

Was that moment in this cave, one of the opportunities God promised David concerning his enemies? David’s men thought so. They saw King Saul’s vulnerability as an opportunity for David to avenge himself and ascend to the throne. But David saw it as an opportunity to slay his fleshly desire and crown God as Lord of his life.

The fact is, not every opportunity that presents itself to us can be read into as fulfillment of God’s promise to us. Our expectations and plans can deceive us. The key is what that opportunity says about God – His glory and honor.

The key question then is, “Am I looking to crown myself or God as Lord in the opportunities that come my way?”

Shalom, and good morning.
