It Is on A Leash!

He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.

Mark 4:39

For Meditation

The old man sits on his porch, reclining in the cool midday breeze with closed eyes. The garden gate creaks, and a man and a lady quietly walk in.

Bobby snarls and starts to leap at the intruders.

“Dad! Where are you?” the lady cries out.

The old man gently sits up. “Bobby, be quiet!”

Every muscle in Bobby goes limp. It lies down and closes its eyes.

“Dad, when did you get that one? Boy! I almost fainted.”

“Come in, sweetie. You have not met Bobby yet. It is a German Shepherd, but it cannot harm my baby! It is on a leash anyway.

Now, who is this handsome young man by your side?”

Like the story of Jesus and his disciples in the storm (Mk. 4:39), many things threaten us in life. They could be spiritual, physical, mental, or emotional. Whatever their nature, they could be deadly.

I do not know the “dogs” in your life. Neither do I know your threatening storm. But I do know the One who sits on the porch, reclining in the noonday breeze. He may look asleep, but His eyes are on you all the time (Ps. 121:3-4).

The threatening dog is on a leash and knows the voice of God, your Father. The raging storm also recognizes His presence and knows not to touch you.

So, do not be afraid. Nothing can touch you. Have faith in the Lord and continue to dwell in His secret place.

Shalom and good morning.
