Called by Names?

He replied, “It is not right to take the children’s bread and toss it to the dogs.”

Matthew 15:26

Your Encouragement

Your position in life does not matter before the Lord. The game-changer is why you have come to Him.

The Canaanite woman knew Jesus was the only person with the power to heal her daughter. She came for a purpose, and she was not going back without a favorable response. The crowd did not intimidate her. Neither could the disciples’ disdain push her away from Jesus (Matt. 15:21-28).

She knew who she was. She was a gentile and a woman. So, the Lord’s seeming offensive response did not offend her (26). She had been called by many names before, but none of them diminished who she was. She was at the Master’s feet and knew not to be offended by Him, but to keep to her place and get what she wanted. So, she wisely turned the tables with her exquisite faith and candor.

“Yes, it is, Lord,” she said. “Even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their master’s table” (27).

Then Jesus said to her, “Woman, you have great faith! Your request is granted.” And her daughter was healed at that moment (28).

I do not know what offends you in the Bible, but that should not diminish your faith in the Lord of all creation who is all-wise, just, and righteous. You have a need. Go to Him with intense determination to receive your need. Empty yourself before Him. Keep your focus on Jesus and be filled with His goodness and kindness. He has unlimited grace to lavish on you for His glory.

Shalom, and good morning.
