Faithfulness

So, if you have not been trustworthy in handling worldly wealth, who will trust you with true riches?

Luke 16:11

For Meditation

He lived in the United Kingdom for about thirty years, worked, and sponsored himself through college to the doctoral level. Planning to return to Ghana in the future, Professor Ayiku sent money to his nephew, Kofi Adusah, to build a house for him.

Back in Accra, Adusah reluctantly took his uncle to see the building. To his dismay, he was led to a building that was just beyond the foundation phase. Shocked beyond disbelief, Professor Ayiku broke down in tears. All the pictures Kofi sent him were somebody else’s building. He had been scammed by his nephew.

It is a story many immigrants can relate to one way or another. This kind of unfaithfulness happens every day across Europe, America, and other parts of the world. It occurs when somebody acts deceitfully to gain the confidence of another and then woefully disappoints him in the end.  The same dishonesty happens in marriages, businesses, friendships, workplaces, and, unfortunately, in the Church, where naturally, trust must be taken for granted. It has become a game people play. Consequently, it has become difficult to trust people anymore.

However, faithfulness is one of, if not the most important component in every relationship. It is the element that determines the strength of a relationship. Every relationship begs the question, “Can I trust you?” If two people in a relationship cannot be faithful to each other and the cause of their partnership, that relationship is doomed from the beginning.

Thank God that His faithfulness endures forever (Ps. 117:2). It is His very nature to be faithful (2 Tim 2:13). It is an aspect of His immutability (Malachi 3:6). It is that which makes Him dependable and trustworthy. Therefore, when we come to Him through Christ Jesus, He expects us to be faithful (Lk. 16:10-12). To help us in our weakness, He has given us His Holy Spirit, who bears faithfulness as a fruit in the believer who yields to Him (Gal. 5:22-25). The benefit of it is favor and a good name in the sight of God and man (Prov. 3:3, 4).

Maybe you are wondering why nobody trusts you with anything or why God does not give you any responsibility that comes with promotion (Lk. 16: 11, 12). Check your faithfulness barometer and be honest with your assessment. The Holy Spirit is waiting for your call if you fall short in any area of your life.
