The Curveball of God

A messenger came to Saul, saying, “Come quickly! The Philistines are raiding the land.” Then Saul broke off his pursuit of David and went to meet the Philistines.

1 Samuel 23:27-28

For Meditation

The timing of God is impeccable. His eyes are keenly set on his children to rescue and deliver from imminent dangers, some of which we will never know on this side of eternity. God is All-knowing, All-powerful, and faithful. That is what makes Him reliable when we are in trouble. Nothing escapes God’s watchful eyes, and nothing can spring a surprise on His children that He does not see. That is what sets Him apart from all other gods. When His children are in danger, He moves with thunder and lightning, and with perfect timing, to protect them by His perfect will.

David could not have been more surprised and relieved when Saul and his men pulled away from their chase so abruptly on the opposite side of the mountain in the wilderness of Maon (1 Sam. 23:26-29). But that is the specialty of God. He aptly comes to the rescue of His people in surprising ways they may never understand.

You may be in some imminent danger today. Your enemies may be closing in on you, and you are terrified to death. The bank may be threatening foreclosure, and you do not know what to do. Whatever your situation may be, take heart. God can change the situation and rescue you as He did to David. You may not know the reason for the sudden change of plans with the people on the other side, but that is the providential hand of your Savior at work on your behalf.

If you are in doubt, call up another witness in Mordecai (Esther 6:1-10), and set your heart at peace. For, God knows how to throw a curveball at your enemy to change their plans or put them to flight, far away from you in haste. Just trust Him in your critical hour.

He is always on time to protect you.
