The Challenge of Faith

And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.

Hebrews 11:6

For Meditation

Real faith is not just the assurance of a particular outcome. It is absolute confidence in God’s ability, regardless of one’s circumstances. Whatever God says, He will do (Isa. 55:10-11). Real faith, therefore, trusts in God to fulfill His word.

But someone might say, “It has been too long.”

The prophet makes this affirmative statement about the faithfulness of God.

“Since ancient times no one has heard,

    no ear has perceived,

no eye has seen any God besides you,

who acts on behalf of those who wait for him” (Isaiah 64:4).

In other words, God has always done and will always act on behalf of those who wait for Him. If He has determined or said it, He will do it.

The issue, therefore, is not about God’s ability or faithfulness. It is about your belief in His being and sovereignty (Heb. 11:6). Do you believe He is a living God who loves and desires to bless those who trust in Him? Do you have faith that He has your best interest at heart?

Such faith does not keep on pleading for what God has promised He will do. It just trusts in His unchanging character (Nu. 23:19; Mal. 3:6) and unquestionable ability (Dan. 3:17; 2 Tim. 1:12; Heb. 7:25). He always keeps His word.

How about you?

Can you wait for Him?
