The Challenge of Faith (2)

But Ruth replied, “Don’t urge me to leave you or to turn back from you. Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God.

Ruth 1:16

For Meditation

Christianity is about faith and commitment of one’s life to Jesus. It is about committing to going all the way with Him through thick and thin. It is a lesson we learn from the experience of Naomi with her two daughters-in-law on the road to Bethlehem (Ruth 1:6-19).

Orpah turned and went back to her people when Naomi confronted her with the chances of her new life in Judah (Ruth 1:11-14). But Ruth committed to going all the way with Naomi (16-18).

Many people have turned back from Jesus for various reasons. For some, the going got tough, and some of the Christian demands on their lives became too much (John 6:60, 66). The question today is, are you sure you have a Ruth-like faith and commitment to Christ to go all the way with Him (67-69)?

As Paul prayed for the Thessalonians, I raise “before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ” (1 Thess. 1:3). May your love and commitment to Christ yield nourishment and many refreshing times from Him today and every other day till He comes.
