The Devotion of a Priest

He had begun his journey from Babylon on the first day of the first month, and he arrived in Jerusalem on the first day of the fifth month, for the gracious hand of his God was on him. For Ezra had devoted himself to the study and observance of the Law of the Lord, and to teaching its decrees and laws in Israel.

Ezra 7:9-10

For Meditation

Ezra instructs us on three levels of devotion to God.

  • He devoted himself to the study of the word of God.
  • He devoted himself to obey the word of God.
  • He devoted himself to bringing others along through his teaching ministry and example.

Ezra was single-mindedly devoted to God. It involved his mind, his will, and his strength. His devotion revealed his love for God, which I believe God sets as an example for us this morning.

Can you devote to Him as Ezra did?

As you devote to God as Ezra did, may the gracious hand of God be upon you (9). May He guide you through all your undertakings because you have devoted yourself to the duties of your office as a royal priest of God!

Shalom, and good morning.
