Peace in the Storm

Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?”

Mark 4:38

For Meditation

Storms are inevitable on the sea. It is a natural phenomenon as different air temperatures create varying pressure systems.

It is the same situation in life. Different life situations create friction and controversies. Changes in the body cause sicknesses and challenging health conditions. Death occurs and brings sorrow to many homes. Changing financial conditions convulse relationships and lead to heartbreaks.

Whatever the storm in your life, it will pass. Only in the meantime, know that Jesus is with you all the time. The angry sea will not drown you. He wants you to be calm and trust Him. He set an example for us by sleeping in the storm. That is the place He wants us to be—a place of tranquility with Him in every storm in our life.

Remember that Jesus is the Maker of heaven and earth (Col. 1:16). He has control over all creation—the sea, wind, waves, temperature, and pressure systems. He has authority over every situation that may cause storms in your life. In such life-threatening circumstances, Jesus may seem asleep and uncaring. But He is not. Our Lord neither slumber nor sleep (Psalm 121:3-4).

So do not be afraid. When the Master has tried your faith, He will command the raging sea to be still, and all will be calm and peaceful. That is how Jesus reveals His glory in storms as God Almighty.

Let this message be your confidence for the new week, the third of the Advent. Prosper in it by His grace in Christ Jesus.
