“I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.” Then the angel left her.
Luke 1:38
For Meditation
Mary’s ready response and total surrender to the message the angel Gabriel brought to her is thought-provoking, as we meditate on the Christmas message today.
“I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered (Luke 1:38). She did not stop to think about the implications of her response. Neither did Mary consider the responsibilities of mothering the Son of God. She heard God through the angel Gabriel, and that was all she needed to know. Mary trusted the Lord, who had appointed her to do the rest. He is God, and she was His servant. Not only that, but she was also eager to see the word of God fulfilled in her life. To be a participant in the redemptive plan of God was her highest privilege. Simple faith; ready obedience. That is the response the Lord wants to His word that comes to us. He fills in the details as we humbly accept His call and put ourselves in His able hands.
What word have you heard from the Lord, and what are you struggling with about the call? Do you consider it a privilege that the Almighty God has called you to be a part of His eternal plan for His world? Can you trust Him, step out in faith, and let Him direct your life?
