He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.
Micah 6:8
For Meditation
Should we be good Christians only on Sundays? Is Sunday the only day to celebrate the resurrection of our Lord Jesus? Yes, Sunday has its uniqueness and all; but should our celebration of His victory over death for us end there? Why not every day?
Now, if we must celebrate the resurrection of Christ every day, how should it please God? Micah tells us what God Himself has prescribed—justice, mercy, and humility (6:8).
Since Christ died to satisfy the justice of God on our behalf, He requires His redeemed to be fair in our dealings with everyone. So, let us throw out manipulation and oppression as we relate to others in every way.
Love sent Him to the cross where His mercy embraced us. Should we not, therefore, in love, be merciful to others? So, if we owe anyone an obligation to help them, why hold back for any reason?
Now, because He redeemed us for a personal relationship with Him, He demands an attitude of humility in our walk with Him. Arrogance has no place in our walk with Christ, but to “submit our understanding to the truths of God and our will to His precepts and providences,” as Matthew Henry says.
So, let us celebrate Christ today and every day as we enjoy His presence and all the good gifts His hands have provided. Let us sing praises and worshipful songs to our Redeemer King, for He is good. And His love endures forever.
Let us remember that He does not require any extraordinary works or sacrifices, but our obedience (Micah 6:6-7; 1 Sam. 15:22-23). The only thing God demands is to honor Him with justice, mercy, and humility in our walk with Him and before others. He has given us His Spirit to enable us to do just that.
This year, may we not fail Him, but yield everything in us to the Holy Spirit for Him to minister grace to us for the glory of God in Christ Jesus. Amen!
