He did not say anything to them without using a parable. But when he was alone with his own disciples, he explained everything.
Mark 4:34
For Meditation
As we relive the walk with Jesus to Calvary this month, it is a perfect setting for reflective interaction with Him. O, how he desires to have our attention and openness to listen as He explains everything to us!
- But do you realize how easy it is for many things to take us away from being alone with God in His word and prayer? Even when we step aside with Jesus, how often does He have our full attention?
- Does a father disclose family secrets to a beloved child in public? Is it the usual practice for a couple to have very intimate discussions outside the bedroom? Of course, friends meet in public places to converse and talk over many issues; but don’t you see how two often withdraw for a heart-to-heart conversation?
- Isn’t our Father in heaven seeking such private space and moments with us for such heart-to-heart conversations? Is it too much then for Jesus to ask for time alone with you so He could explain everything He has spoken to the public in parables (Mk. 4:34)?
- Do you not have a lot to learn from our Lord? With many questions on your mind, is it not a privilege for Him to call you aside for direction and instruction? How about wisdom, knowledge, and understanding? Are they not all in His treasury? Will Jesus refuse to open His grace vault to you if you step aside from your busyness to be alone with Him (Heb. 4:16)?
- Do you, therefore, realize the importance of personal devotions, Bible studies, and prayer times? Are they not opportunities for Jesus to reveal the secrets of His heart to you? So, why trade such precious times for anything else in this world?
I pray for the Lord to open His heart to you when you give Him the best part of your precious time today. May your heart rejoice in His presence, as He puts a new song in your mouth, a hymn of praise to your God (Psalm 40:3).
