Luke 8:50
New International Version (NIV)
Hearing this, Jesus said to Jairus, “Don’t be afraid; just believe, and she will be healed.”
For Meditation
With Jesus, every dead situation in our lives is an opportunity for a revelation of His glory. Challenging situations are times for strengthening our faith. We feel anxious when we hit a bump along the way, and things look like Jesus has delayed. When disappointments increase with every rejection, confidence ebbs, and our trust level can drop abysmally. But God is never late, and nothing interrupts His appointment with us.
Jairus might have felt this way when the woman with the blood issue interrupted Jesus on His way to heal his dying daughter (Lk. 8:40-56). Irritation and anxiety might have assailed his mind. Before he could protest, the ultimate report came in. “Your daughter is dead… don’t bother the Teacher” (49). His heart sank. What he feared had become a reality, as Job confessed (Job 3:24).
Such times can arouse lots of unpleasant thoughts about people. Everybody becomes a victim of our blame. Even Jesus! If only He had prioritized our situation! But there is no interruption or delay in His appointment with us. Every setback in our life is a teaching moment and a call to strengthen our faith in Him.
“Don’t be afraid; just believe, and she will be healed (Lk. 8:50)?
Jesus knows your anxious thoughts—the times when the ultimate shock waves sound through your heart—those moments when you think it is over for you. What He wants is for you to trust Him for your peace. For, when He finally touches your situation, O, the joy! He brings back life even when death has laid its icy hands on it, and everybody is lamenting for you (51-56).
Your circumstances must not dictate your level of faith in Christ. It must not disturb your peace when you keep pace with the Prince of Peace. He finishes everything He has determined for your life. Just believe even when the bottom falls out.
