Your Helper Is Your Lord

Isaiah 41:10

New International Version

So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

For Meditation

There are so many things we have left undone after taking a critical look at its enormity and our little selves. We have overly focused and hesitated long enough to quench every enthusiasm simmering in our hearts. In the end, the voice in us that accuses and taunts us as nothing but weaklings who do not measure up to the big ones, has triumphed.

You have conceived and dreamt about the proposal since God put it in your heart. That vision is so clear you can almost touch it. So, what happened that you have shelved it? What has thrown the cold shower on your determination and fire?

Maybe your imagination has taken you on a tour of the land of impossibilities—the country where wimps dwell—where nothing flourishes but the nursing of wounds. There, regrets bury the brave every day—a country where everybody is a nobody, and everything is impossible. It is a place where dreams have suffered defeat by the giants of Canaan and its fortified cities. You saw the rivers of milk and honey alright, but your crafty tour guide quickly whisked you away and took you for a quick visit to the training grounds of the enemy soldiers. You looked in their eyes and saw yourself as a grasshopper, and that has sealed your defeat (Numbers 13:27-29). You cannot do it—you have concluded.

Where are Caleb and Joshua—those gallant men of faith who see the Almighty God before anything—the men who know their God and His faithful promises. Such is the breed of the faithful who keep the spectacular display of God’s power in Egypt in their minds and remember how that led to their deliverance from slavery. They never forget the miracle at the Red Sea and all other evidence the Most High God has given of Himself. Their faith is firm and anchored on the Rock that followed them through their wilderness journey. To them, Canaan is another defeated foe waiting to go on their list of victories for the glory of their God.

So, which side do you belong to this morning? Whose report will you believe—the report of the crafty tour guide or that of Caleb and Joshua?

Maybe you need a little reminder of who you are and what is possible for you. Listen to what God says to Israel in Isaiah 40:10 and take courage. Do not fear, for God is with you and will help you accomplish the task He has set before you.

Your testimony is waiting to go into the history books of encouragement for the glory of Christ Jesus our Lord. Just get up and get on with what He has put in your heart to do.
