Revelation 19:7
New International Version (NIV)
The wedding of the Lamb has come,
and his bride has made herself ready.
For Meditation
Every year around the world, countries hold elections to choose new leaders. People expect their inauguration, and they prepare for the occasion. Ceremonies and parties mark the day, as the people rejoice and await better days. They crown those celebrations with a Presidential Dinner, which is solely by invitation. The event showcases those that have strong social, economic, and political connections. Many people juggle and lobby for invitation cards to dine with the new Presidents.
Pretty soon, there will be another event—the wedding supper of the Lamb (Rev. 19:1-8). It will be “the time for the church, prepared by loyalty and suffering [to] enter her full experience of salvation and glory with her beloved spouse, Christ” (The Expositor’s Bible Commentary, pg. 571). Heaven rejoices, for “the Lord Almighty reigns… the wedding of the Lamb has come, and His bride has made herself ready” (6-7). There is no need to juggle and lobby for this invitation. Unlike the earthly Presidential dinners, it is not for the “Big” people or the politically and socially connected. The invitation is for everybody in the world (Titus 2:11; Jn. 3:16). But heaven will admit only those who respond to the invitation (Jn. 1:12-13). However, it requires a response “today” (Heb. 3:7).
- Have you responded to this Gospel message?
- What are you waiting for before you respond?
- Why not take the challenge now and call on Jesus to save you while the invitation still stands (Rm. 10:9-10, 13)?
- Have you considered the alternative—hell—if you neglect or reject this gracious invitation (Lk. 16:22-24)?
- Is that how you want to spend eternity?
I pray you will let nothing stop you from responding to this gracious invitation from the King of glory. It is worth everything you have.
May you secure your seat at the Lamb’s wedding supper today, and may you celebrate your salvation with anticipation and great joy.
