Comforted By Omniscience

Psalm 139:1

New International Version (NIV)

 You have searched me, Lord,
    and you know me.

For Encouragement

This morning, can you reflect on God’s perfect knowledge and personalize it as David did in Psalm 139? When you consider God knows you so flawlessly (1), what does it do to your faith and way of life?

Does it change anything for you, knowing that God knows everything you plan to do, where you go, and the motive behind all you do (2-3)? Does it stimulate a holy fear in you and motivate you to reverence His Majesty? Isn’t it humbling to know that before a word is on your tongue, God knows it (4)?

In trying circumstances, does it bring comfort and assurance to you that God knows where you hurt? Is it any consolation to know that God knows your innocence before your accusers? How about your unfair treatment by your spouse, boss, or friend?

Does the Omniscience of God calm your nerves when the storm rises, or darkness overshadows you? What do you do with the truth that God knows what you can take when tempted? How about the truth of an open door of escape He will open to you at your lowest point (1 Corinthians 10:13)?

When sickness invades the sanctity of your body, does it not help to remember that He who created your “inmost being” and “knit you together in your mother’s womb” (Psalm 139:13) is your Father? Does it strengthen your faith in prayer to remember that God knows about your sickness more than any human doctor and that He has the power to heal according to His sovereign will?

I pray your responses to these questions will shape your perception of God and make your worship more intimate and personal. May these reflections strengthen your faith in times of difficulty and in times of joy to bring you peace and hope.

It is well with your soul, my friend.
