Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care.And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.

Some days are depressing—the times when we look down on ourselves and feel like nobodies. We question our worth and importance in this world, as self-esteem deserts us. It is a feeling that drowns every one of us deep in the waters of depression one time or another.

It gets so bad sometimes that we wish we were dead, as Elijah prayed (1 kings 19:4), and we look like “grasshoppers in our own eyes,” as the scouts reported to Moses (Numbers 13:33)

Whatever takes you to that depressive low, remind yourselves of God’s love for you and how He sees you rather than how you see yourselves. His view is the best, with comfort and assurance in its wings. You are the most valuable of all of His creation.

If God cares for the sparrows in the air so much that none of them will ever drop dead apart from His will, how much care do you think He puts on you, His child? If He cares so much about every strand of hair on your head, how valuable do you think you are to Him, His redeemed (Matthew 10:29-30)?

Are you still scratching your head? Maybe it is because you have forgotten the essence of Calvary. Look at the blood-stained cross. Look at Him who took all your sins on Himself and died that shameful death. Why did He do it? Have you not comprehended what took Him there—His love for you (Romans 5:8)? Did He do that for the angel who fell? Why did He do it for you?

Maybe you think God got you wrong for spending everything in His treasure vault to redeem you. But think about it for a second. Is God ever incorrect? Has the All-knowing, All-wise God ever made a mistake?

Arise this morning, my friend, and take a shower, singing His praises, for somewhere deep in His treasury lies a document with your name on it that reads, “You are Mine!” You are His treasured possession—His beloved in His Son, Jesus Messiah King. He has put His signet ring as a seal on you, His precious Holy Spirit. God loves you beyond this dying world. The Most High God is your Father, and nothing in the entire universe can take His love away from you (Romans 8:35-39.

So, shout that depressive feeling away, and tell that lying devil to get behind you by the authority of your Risen Lord Jesus Christ. Smile in His Presence all day long and at all times.
