Human Priorities

1 Kings 18:5

New Living Translation

Ahab said to Obadiah, “We must check every spring and valley in the land to see if we can find enough grass to save at least some of my horses and mules.”

For Meditation
Really, Ahab!

“Find grass to keep at least some of my horses and mules,” (1 Kings 18:5) when humans were dying?

How could you prioritize your horses over your subjects at this time of terrible drought and famine in your country (17:1)?

Unfortunately, that is the primary concern of leaders who care nothing for their subjects. And there are many of them around the world who wield power for their self-interests.

It reminds me of some State leaders of the Great USA, who watch their citizens dying from Covid-19, but stand staunchly against vaccination and masking. The lives of their people are inconsequential to their political careers.

May we err on the side of human welfare than on our property and career trajectories

Shalom and a blissful Saturday.
