It Is Only A Test.

John 6:5-6

New International Version

When Jesus looked up and saw a great crowd coming toward him, he said to Philip, “Where shall we buy bread for these people to eat?” He asked this only to test him, for he already had in mind what he was going to do.

For Meditation

When the Savior asks us about something, it is only a test. He knows all things, what He would do about them, and how things would turn out. He only engages us in the process to bring us along and into a deeper understanding of things for our good and His purpose (Romans 8:28). What a privilege we have in our Savior!

When Jesus asked Philip where they could buy food to feed the five thousand (John 6:5), it was only a test. Jesus already had in mind what He was going to do (6). He knew the number of loaves available, whose they were, and what He would do with them (8-9).

For example, Jesus knew what people said He was, yet He asked the disciples (Matthew 16:13). He knew what Peter thought about the temple tax (Matthew 17:25-26), what the blind men wanted from Him (20:32), which was lawful to do on the Sabbath—to heal or not (Mark 3:4), the name of the demons that possessed the man in the tombs (5:9), and who touched Him in the crowd (5:30); yet He asked.

Please, get it right today. When Jesus asks you about what you want Him to do for you, what you are thinking, or what you plan to do about an issue, He knows your response. He is not ignorant. He only wants your attention and the expression of your heart on the matter, that He would lead you to a place of understanding and knowledge of Him. It’s for the perfecting of your faith and grace for spiritual growth.

So, what is the Lord asking you today? If you have been talking to Him, He should have asked you something?

Come straight with Him, my friend. Your Master knows the reality of your heart in that situation. The best part is that He knows what He has planned for you. Therefore, may you experience Him in a new and powerful way today as you respond to Him.

Amen.
