How Soon We Forget

He Never Forgets

Numbers 14:1-3                                                                                          New International Version

That night all the members of the community raised their voices and wept aloud. All the Israelites grumbled against Moses and Aaron, and the whole assembly said to them, “If only we had died in Egypt! Or in this wilderness! Why is the Lord bringing us to this land only to let us fall by the sword? Our wives and children will be taken as plunder. Wouldn’t it be better for us to go back to Egypt?”

For Encouragement

The Israelites had soon forgotten their hardship and misery in Egypt. They had forgotten all the wonders God did to deliver them from Pharaoh, the miracle at the Red Sea, at Meribah, against the Amalekites, the giving of the manna, and the quail. Now they wanted to go back to Egypt. They preferred servitude to freedom in the Lord who had delivered them—all because of the evil report the ten spies brought after scouting Canaan (Numbers 13:27-29).

When we forget the goodness of God and His power, we lose our perspective, and fear displaces our trust in Him. But His past deeds are pillars and landmarks to encourage us along the way. They are means to incite our total confidence in Him for now and beyond.

The opposition may seem overwhelming, but the hand of our God is more than everything imaginable. He can lead you to victory under the banner of Jesus Christ—our Redeemer.

Just trust Him with childlike faith.
