Matthew 10:31
New International Version
So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.
For Meditation
If God cares so much for a sparrow of little value as a penny, how much more worth does He put on us, His adopted children, bought with the precious blood of Jesus Christ? If no sparrow ever drops dead apart from His will, how keenly does He not keep His eyes on us to protect? That is how precious we are to our Father in heaven.
What is your hair, and how important is it that God should number them? And if He has numbered them, how could He not know each strand and when it falls? If He cares so much for the hair on your head, how can you doubt he cares for your total wellbeing?
Now, come on, Kwame!
From where did the thought of God not knowing the pain you are going through now, as you read this, come? Where did the idea of Him not caring for you emanate? Are you not worth a billion times more than an entire flock of sparrows? (Matt. 10:31).
Is that sickness or a broken relationship inflicting that unceasing pain on you not more concerning to Him than a strand of your hair? Will God not see you through any corrective intervention necessary to fix it?
I do not know the exact condition of your situation today, my friend. It may not be the back problem I am suffering through, but it may be as painful all the same. You cry when your pain peaks, as I do. You have prayed much and expected His touch as I have. I dare not put a name or estimate the period you have agonized in it, for I don’t know. But I have news for you.
Your Father in heaven knows every detail, and the best part is that He has a timeline drawn for your relief.
Ask me how I know, and I will tell you I know my Daddy. I have a wonderful knowledge of His goodness and compassionate care—His providential hand that works in the shadows of our lives. As the songwriter succinctly puts it, “He knows your name. He knows your every thought. He sees each tear that falls and hears you when you call.”
How many times has God not told His people not to fear or lose hope? Can you hear Him whisper in your ears right now?
“Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze” (Isaiah 43:1-2).
So, I will not fear, as you should not, for to our Father in heaven, we are worth a billion times more than the largest flock of sparrows in the world. I am precious in His eyes more than I know, and so are you.
Now, that is the reason for Jesus, amen! So, praise Him.
