Salt and Light

Matthew 5:13-14

New King James Version

“You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned… You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.”

A Song to Sing in Thankfulness

Tasteless life—bland, rejecting!

Dreading the next minute—

fearful, what to expect.

Yesterday to repeat.

Déjà vu?

You, I need—

salt to flavor.

There she is—grace,

the Lord’s treasury

to sprinkle

and make tasty—

salt from heaven,

Jesus, Messiah!

Purpose,

where were you—then

Where, your hiding place?

Boring routine—out you go!

Right at your heels,

dejection flees!

At the mention of that name—

Jesus the Lord,

Because He lives—you can live;

you, also, can face tomorrow.

But why so dark the alleys of life?

Why shadowy the corners—

that strikes fear in

the hearts of men.

Is not the Savior—

Light of the world?

Wrongs exposed—

In His presence,

immorality revealed to avoid

Your value system to interrogate—

Any blemishes to wax off,

in the light that gives light

to the world?

And look at you!

Now shining like a star—

His light beaming at you;

through you,

your neighbor to shine.

Now you—the light of the world

to guide the wandering soul—

His Presence to receive.
